How We Reviewed

We love our job; we love to review products. For the purpose of reviewing cellulite massagers, our panel of judges were 70% female and 30% male, to represent the fact that females get cellulite tissue more so than males do.

Don’t be mistaken though; men do indeed get cellulite and they hate it just as much as women do.

Overall Price Range

The top 10 best cellulite massagers that we reviewed were skewed under the bell curve in terms of price. The cheapest products can be as little as $10, while the most expensive can run well over $500.

The jump in price occurs when you go to professional grade models, and this is understandable. Imagine providing 30 or more massage sessions in one day, five days a week.

Best Cellulite Massager FAQ

What Is Cellulite?

No matter how you pronounce it, either cell-u –light or cell-u-leet, it’s all about the distribution of fat tissue.

The exact cause of cellulite is still being debated in the halls of science and cosmetology, but it is definitely an interaction in the subcutaneous fat layer that lies below the skin. The connective tissue of the skin is arranged in a vertical fashion in women.

Over time, and due to several factors, fat will begin to protrude or herniate around the connective tissue and encroach up and underneath the skin.

So what looks like gobs of blobs or lumps and bumps under the skin is actually fat tissue emerging up into places where it shouldn’t be.There is definitely no love relationship between humans and cellulite.

Some names for cellulite are orange-peel skin, cottage cheese skin, hail damage, and lumpy mattress syndrome.

Graded Like Livestock

Adding insult to injury, cellulite distribution is graded just like livestock (or curd size for cottage cheese).

Grade 1 is assigned to the orange- peel appearance with between one and 4 rather shallow depressions and a bit of sag to the skin.

Grade 2 cellulite is assigned to the cottage cheese appearance with between 5 and 9 medium depth depressions and a moderate draping appearance to the skin.

Grade 3 cellulite is assigned to the lumpy mattress appearance with 10 or more deep pockmark-like depressions and a severe sagging or draping appearance to the skin.

Why Is It Different for Men?

Men have all the luck. Not only do they have less fat, but their fat tissue is distributed differently. Muscle and connective tissue have some differences from that of females. One factor is the way connective tissue is arranged in the fat layer beneath their skin.

While females’ connective tissue is arranged vertically, male connective tissue is arranged in a hatched or crisscross fashion.

What Contributes to Cellulite?

Hormones have a big hand in the cottage cheese container, a.k.a. development of cellulite. Estrogen, insulin, thyroid hormones, and others influence the production of cellulite.

The end result of hormonal changes may be an increase in the size of fat cells and a decrease in blood flow and lymphatic drainage due to a lowering of circulation, loss of elasticity, and lower collagen production.

Lumps In the Genes (Jeans)

Genetic factors help to determine a person’s fat distribution, metabolism and hormone regulation. Dietary and lifestyle choices are notorious for increasing the incidence of cellulite.

Smoking, sedentary lifestyle, and chronically wearing tight-fitting clothes can all contribute to diminished circulation and drainage.

Fat v. Thin

Yes, cellulite occurs in people who have more body fat, but thin people also suffer from cellulite. Being of young age will not protect you either; cellulite formation increases after the age of 25, but even teenagers can develop cellulite.

How Do Cellulite Massagers Help Reduce Cellulite?

The type of massage that is provided by cellulite massagers is a deep tissue or myofascial massage that may help break up bulging fat deposits under the skin. Massage helps to smooth out the surface and improve the lumpy bumpy look of cellulite.

Massage also improves blood circulation and lymphatic drainage and so can promote the metabolic processes that repair and restore tissues that have gotten lost from their assigned locations.

Why Not Try Other Interventions?

Cellulite massagers are far safer than laser treatments, or having a sebaceous procedure, where a dermatologist inserts a needle under the skin in the attempt to break up bands of connective tissue.

Cellulite massagers are noninvasive and can actually be fun. If for no other reason, it makes more sense to try the less invasive procedure before spending a lot of money and increasing the risk of permanent damage to tissues.

We feel the need to mention liposuction here; liposuction does not affect the underlying structure of the connective tissue, and really, when you think about it, you don’t want to have your connective tissues damaged to the point that pressure and gravity will cause underlying fat tissue to pop up everywhere like popcorn under the skin.

Verdict

After our review of the top 10 cellulite massagers, we decided to go with the Wahl Deep Tissue Percussion Therapeutic Handheld Massager.

Admittedly, we did look at the professional grade cellulite massagers but decided that we didn’t need so much power for our personal, daily use.

The Wahl is just as effective, if not more, than the cellulite massagers priced at professional-grade cost. The handle is not only well-designed, but it fits well in both larger and smaller hands.

The variable speed of the Wahl puts us in control over the intensity as well as the amount of pressure. We also like the four attachments. The four-finger attachment really does feel like a human touch.

The accupoint is perfect to pinpoint small areas. The flat disk is the perfect amount of surface area between bones, curves, and quadrants of the body. Both men and women on our panel like the Wahl.

Like we said earlier, we love us just the way we are. Our spouses, boyfriends, and girlfriends think we are great just the way we look. We are the ones who have been looking in the mirror lately and would just like a smoother, more toned appearance.

The best cellulite massagers are those devices that are going to improve our blood and lymphatic circulation, create heat, and help to mobilize the fat tissue that makes up cellulite.

If you want just a little something more in the mirror, try one of the top 10 best cellulite massagers.
